To The Boy That Hurt Me

Feel the honey caress that my eyes deliver.

To the boy that hurt me,

To the one who is white.

You have pained me.

You have pained me in such a way I almost cannot describe, but I will try.

You have dug deeper into a trench created by your ancestors before you.

A trench buried deep into the heart.

Into the very heart of the land we call our home.

You have wounded me. I cannot fathom how much you have wounded me.

How much you have hurt me.

But...

You will miss me.

You will miss my flesh of diversity,

That flows through my massive and undulating hair,

Through my melodious and cultured accent,

Through the roughages of my curves.

But the melanin,

That permeates every cell in my skin,

You will miss that the most.

For a second,

You saw me.

Right through the honey caress

That my eyes deliver.

The honey caress

You became enveloped in.

I know that in your mind,

It was pure indulgence.

Pure innocence on the

Mistake you've made.

To the boy that hurt me,

you closed your eyes.

You rejected me.

After you searched for me

And I offered you my hand.

You rejected me.

And I lost myself,

In the labyrinth of the world's fallacies.

I cried the rivers

That flow down to the Earth

To become the morning dew.

I cried the oceans

That filled the saucers

Of those who thirst.

The thirst for an end.

An end to the continuous opposition

Of people like me.

People like us.

Who crave the privilege that you offer.

To the boy that hurt me,

I know you could not pursue me further,

Because of the color of my skin.

You were afraid,

Of my skin.

So, you closed your eyes.

But weren't you the one,

Who fell?

Who fell into the honey caress

That my eyes deliver?

But my skin

Oh, oh, oh

My skin.

If I was anything other

Would you have noticed me?

If I was the latter,

Would you have rejected me?

I hope that one day

You will realize

That the honey caress

You seek,

You sought,

Is one of a fellow human,

Of one race,

The human race.

I hope you know that we both bleed the same.

The same velvety red

That pumps life through our veins.

But you and I,

We do not see the same.

No one can teach you to see if you were born blind.

Only you can choose to see,

if you open your eyes.

So to this,

I see you,

And I say,

"Look into my eyes,

My honey caress,

And feel the warmth that they bring..."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
