To The 5 Year Old Me:

Being an adult does not mean nap time.

Dear me,

You are probably sitting in the desk of your kindergarten classroom realizing what letters are and how to pronounce them. Mom more than likely put your hair up cutely with an outfit that no one in the class has, and I bet you had your lunch packed by dad. Your thoughts probably are roaming to coloring your time capsule, to cheer that would take place that evening, or how you haven't even lost your first tooth. Please listen to me as I tell you this: do not wish to grow up.

Love the easy things.

You may think your life is a series of unfortunate events and how you will die if you do not get the new Barbie that momma showed you, but you will. You need to sit and understand that you have so much ahead of you and that things aren't how they seem because people are atrocious and rude. You are such a bright, young soul with a naïve personality, but your parents raised you well because you see the best in everyone. Yes, you envied others just because they had something that seemed nicer than yours, but appreciate what your parents do because they give you all that you can.

Don't fret.

You need to not worry about the people who will come in and out of your life because they are simply pages in your overall story. You are the reason people are reading and wanting to know more, so do not feel like anyone is more important than you in the end. The people you might feel that way to are just ones who you envy but will soon realize will not amount to what you will.

Appreciate your family.

When you get a tad older, you shall realize that your sisters are not the ones that you want to be with 24/7, but hang out with them anyway. Over time, they will move away and you will be the only one at home and will feel an immense sadness because mom and dad are working nonstop. This goes along with any other family member because you'll realize you missed a lot of opportunities with them right before you move away. Your family are the ones who will love you no matter what and do anything they can to help you even when you don't ask.

Wait to fall in love.

I do not care if all of your friends are doing it and you want to, you will not find love when you get to high school. I do not care if the senior is claiming he loves you because he doesn't, he just wants an ego boost. You will be in high school and thinking love is this glorious thing and you'll find your soul mate walking the halls of Parkway High School, but you won't. Do not even think you will because dating at this time is overrated. You will more than likely talk to a bunch of guys, which is OK, but they will not be worth your time so do not even think about falling in love, instead be a heartbreaker.

Don't want to grow up.

Listen, this is the biggest thing because I know at some point, you'll want to grow up and own a large amount of dogs in a house that you designed on The Sims, but do not ever wish for time to go by. Cherish the moments you have as you enter each grade, and let mom hold your hand as she walks you to class on the first day. Appreciate that dad will take you to bed if you fall asleep on the couch, and you'll wake up and there will be food ready. Adore the fact that your biggest problem is picking out what backpack you want and if it will be cute enough to carry around for a year. These are the moments that you need to appreciate because they will go by in the blink of an eye. You may not realize it yet, but time flies by and you'll be graduating high school in no time. You will be the last of your class, so you'll sit and be sentimental about everything that has happened in the past thirteen academic years. So I beg you, do not wish to grow up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
