To my little brother,
Hey kid, I just wanted to wish you good luck on your first day of high school and give you some advice. Don’t be late for class. You may have to walk faster in the hallways or push through crowds, but always get to class on time. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you ask, the more you learn. There really is no such thing as a stupid question and sometimes the best questions lead to the best answers. Basically, think before you speak. Pay attention and do what works for you. If you have to write little notes in the margins of your notebook so you’ll remember that potential energy is stored energy, then go for it. If you need to make 100 flashcards so you can remember the Latin declensions, do it. Trust me; knowing what works for you really helps in the long run. Oh, and form really good study skills now. You may think I’m crazy, but there are some people who honestly don’t know how to study in college. Find what works for you and stick with it. I promise it will help in the long run.
Make friends with people in your classes, especially girls. They’ll more than likely have really good notes and you never know when you’re going to miss school. Try not to take too many days off. It is tempting, but those missed days end up biting you in the butt. If you do miss, just don’t stress out too much over the work. If you need extra help, let your teacher know you’re struggling. They cannot help you if they don’t know you’re having a hard time. That extra help they give you really makes a difference, too.
Get involved. Sign up for clubs and activities; go to the dances and pep rallies and games. Do your homework first, but then get involved.
Lastly, have fun and enjoy high school. Those four years go by way too fast. One day you walk in your freshman year and you’re nervous about forgetting your combination, who to sit with at lunch, or not getting the right book and before you know it, it’s your last day of senior year and you’re returning your books and cleaning out your locker. Before you know it, you’re lining up for Class Day and listening to all of the silly prophecies and wills and “Remember When’s.” Before you know it, you’ll be walking across that stage and receiving your diploma and trying to figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life. It goes by way too quick, kid. So, enjoy high school. Have fun and make a ton of memories and always know that your big sister is here for you. I will read your papers and help you study about the Roman Empire, all you need to do is ask. I love you and have a great four years of high school.
Love Always,
Your older sister
