I read something recently that has really been affecting the way I think and look at relationships with others.
“Notice who you derive your energy from.”
I have been blessed enough to have a few people in my life who have shown me the best in myself. When I’m around them, I never feel drained or like I have to summon the energy to remember what to say next around them. I am simply and undeniably the best version of myself.
Like I said, I have been blessed with a few people like this throughout my years, but there is one person who never falters. One person who I have been counting on since I was a freshman in high school. One person who constantly invigorates me, encourages me and shows me how to be the best me that I can be.
That person is my best friend, or maybe my soulmate. Sometimes I think maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates, and sometimes I think our girlfriends are definitely our soulmates.
I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t made my parents drive me an hour to your house almost every weekend in high school. I don’t know who I would be if I hadn’t spent every summer laughing until I cried on the beach with you. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t get to spend every Wednesday eating breakfast food and cookie dough in the kitchen with you.
No matter how long it's been since our last conversation, we always pick up where we left off. And I can honestly say that we have never even come close to getting in a fight, or even a disagreement. I’ve never even gotten annoyed with you (and I don’t know if you can say the same).
What I mean to say is, I don’t know a life without you.
To sum it up, thank you for everything you do and continue to do for me, and just for being who you are. Thank you for the security that we will never grow apart, and thank you for being nothing short of my family.
