To My Person

To My Person

My Person,

I could start this letter with a witty comment or inside joke, like how I would normally greet you, but I’m not going to. I could start rambling on about the amazing things happening in my life and prod you to tell me about all the things happening in yours, but I won’t. What I need to say is more important than all of those fun little things.

You are my person. It seems I’ve stated the obvious, but in being my person you are much more than another friend. You are my soul mate; the best thing since sliced bread; the peanut butter to my jelly. Ever since we met, you’ve made life incredible. From our first meeting, to the moment we became friends, to the day we realized we were an unstoppable super team, you’ve made my days brighter, brought a smile to my face and made me realize what true and genuine happiness feels like.

As my person, you’ve assumed an incredible amount of responsibility, whether you know it or not. When something good happens, you’re the first one I tell, and you’re always happy for me. When something goes wrong, you’re the first one I go to for advice, and you’re never afraid to tell me the truth (no matter how much I don’t want to hear it). You’re my shoulder to cry on and the voice to tell me everything will be okay. You know what a mess I can be, and you know how to make things better. I don’t know anyone else that could handle such a tough job, but you do it flawlessly.

My person, there are two things I need you to hear: Thank you, and I love you. Thank you for laughing at my horrible jokes, doing crazy things with me, calling me silly names, and making sure I'm acting 'normally' in public. Thank you for being there to hold my hand and guide me when I'm lost. Thank you for standing by my side through thick and thin, supporting me in all my crazy endeavors, and loving me unconditionally. Thank you for keeping me on my toes and helping me to see the beauty in this world. Thank you for being you, and for helping me be me.

Thank you for being my person. I love you.

Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
