To my new college best friends,
It’s been three months with you guys. You haven’t gotten sick of me yet, so we’re on the right track. We started out knowing absolutely nothing about each other; we finally had that clean slate everyone has been talking about the past few years. We didn’t know about the high school drama that was in our past, we didn’t know about the mistakes we had made, and we were ready to take on college with new faces and new places.
I want to say that I’m thankful I chose you guys for this adventure. Never have I met a group of people so welcoming, so genuinely kind and beautiful, and so perfect. However, if we have the next four years with each other, there are a few things you should know.
First, I want you to know that I will mess up. There will be times when you want to slap me, when you want to scream at me at the top of your lungs. I’ll probably put a hot boy before you because, let’s be honest, at Wilmington that’s easy to do. I’ll forget about a lunch date or two, more than likely due to sleeping through my alarm, and you’ll be left to eat at Einstein’s alone. Sometimes, I’ll be mean. I’ll have a bad day and take it out on the people closest to me -- you guys. After a couple hours, I’ll be sitting in my bed and feeling so bad that I immediately run to your room and apologize. It doesn’t make it okay, but it does mean I’ll work to do better. I hope that in these moments of weakness, you choose to forgive me and continue to make unforgettable memories with me.
Second, I want you to know that because you are my best friends, I will always be there for you and fight all your battles with you. When your parents are saying things that wear you down and make school harder than it already is, I’ll be more than ready to be that shoulder you can cry on, or be the person you can come cuddle in bed with and have a "Gossip Girl," "Friends," "The Office" or "Scandal" marathon. I’ll be there for you. When you get a bad grade, I’ll be ready to go to Harris Teeter, get us some ice cream and soda, and just make it through the day. If one of those hot boys you put above me breaks your heart, I’ll be here. I won’t say I told you so; I’ll tell you that everything will be okay and I’ll be here every step of the way.
Lastly, I want you to know that I can’t wait to make unforgettable (well, sometimes forgettable) memories with you. You will be the highlight of my college career, and I want you to know you are the reason I look forward to classes being over at the end of the day, and the people I know can always put a smile on my face. I love you guys.
Sincerely,
Your new college best friend
