To My Mom Who Was The Single Parent

You’ll never fully understand just how much I appreciate your existence.

To My Mom Who Was The Single Parent

Whenever I see quotes or articles on how kids learn to love from their parents, or the top experts explaining that not having a father can totally screw you up, I can’t help but laugh. I mean, yeah, I guess you could say I’m not totally normal and I’m not a genius in the love department, but according to my doctors, I’m right where I’m supposed to be, with or without a father growing up.

I’ll admit it wasn’t always ideal making Father’s Day Cards for my Uncle or my Grandpa. Thinking back now, I don’t understand why no one suggested making that card for you. You did both jobs, why not get the card for it. I swear I always tried my hardest with Mother’s Day Cards though, how could I not? You were the one person who lit up my world.

You still do and you always will. You’re my sun, shining bright on my world when it’s raining. You’re my boat, keeping me safe when the waves get too rough and the water gets too high. You’re the wind beneath my wings, letting me fly as high as I want to but always keeping your arms open for me to return to safely.

You’ll never fully understand just how much I appreciate your existence.

As they say, Mom knows best.

I also have a few promises for you.

I promise to always let you hug me one last time before I walk out the door. I promise to never hang up the phone without saying, ‘I love you.’ I promise to always take time out of my day to give you a call or sit down and talk with you. I promise to continue making you proud.

You did it, Mom. Look at me! This is 100% you! Of course we have to thank my Biological Dad for allowing me to swim my way into life. I mean, without him I wouldn’t even be here. (Don’t worry, I still give you all the credit.)

But, there’s something you really need to know.

Don’t ever think for a second that you failed me as a parent. Don’t ever think your love wasn’t enough or that you could’ve changed something in my life that could’ve made it better. Don’t ever think every decision you’ve made wasn’t the right one.

If there’s one sentence you will always remember me saying, I want it to be this one: There is no one else who I would’ve wanted to be by my side this whole time.

Love Always,

Your Baby Girl

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
