It's hard for me to think that it's been two years since me and my best friend met while I was studying abroad in England. It feels just like yesterday when we met in our film genres class and I was meeting her at the Campus Kitchen for lunch. I remember those lunches fondly for the great chats we had while we ate chips and pizza that were far overpriced. I remember that we were excited to go to Disneyland Paris (a trip that never happened due to bad planning) and I remember our chats about Disney Society. I remember fondly how we'd sit at the corner table by the window where I could look at the square.
I remember these things because spending time with her was like heaven and there was no place I'd rather be. I miss these moments where we could see each other in person and not just in a screen. I miss sitting in a lecture together complaining about how we hate sci-fi films. I miss getting in trouble at the library for talking instead of doing our work. I miss working on our essays next to each other. I miss seeing films, such as Lion, at the Odeon theatre with her. I miss her.
While we make it a point to chat everyday and are constantly updating each other on our lives, it still isn't the same as it used to be. But I can live with that. I can live with that because we are still in contact. Most of my friends I made abroad aren't my friends anymore because we lost contact. Luckily for me, I have my best friend who is still around and who I can visit in England when I have the money. I am lucky that we have remained such good friends despite the difference. I am lucky that she wants to visit America and I can show her around Disneyland. I am lucky that even though it's been over a year since I left, that we still talk everyday.
The friendship I made with her will last a lifetime and I can't wait to see her again. I can't wait to fly to England where I can see her and we can continue our adventures. I can't wait to smell the English air and feel home again. I can't wait to show her California and we can go to Disneyland and wine taste. I can't wait till she's a bridesmaid at my wedding (I've already put her in charge of bringing me English snacks). I can't wait to see where life takes us as I know that as long as she's my friend, the ride will be amazing.
