Dear Darrien,
You came into this world 15 years ago on Sept. 19, 2000 and ever since then my life has never been the same. I am sure that living as an only child for those three years must have been pretty luxurious (although I can't remember most of it) but if you had never become a part of my life I would not be the person I am today.
Sure, I am your older sister and I used to play tricks on you like any ordinary sister would but we grew up together. You and I played pretend in the backyard, and I yelled at you when you got into the mud and got disgustingly dirty. We watched Barney together and played with legos and pretend fought. When we got older you were the only one I would fathom watching endless marathons of Star Wars with. You introduced me to things like comic books and superheroes, and I tried to get you to play house and barbies with me. Now, looking back it's something I wish we could still do on a daily basis. I want to be five years-old again going on our first Disney trip and experiencing new things with you.
Now, I'm in college and you are a freshman in high school. We do different things, we are going through our own stresses, and I haven't really been around this year. I have been missing you so much and sometimes I wish we could be in the same grade so we can go through things together. I know that high school can be tough and staying motivated can be even harder. Take it from the number one procrastinator in the world that waiting until 8 p.m. the night before to start your history project is not the way to go. It took me a long time to get to where I am today with school, and I still don't have my life completely together.
So, I want you to know that it's okay to work things out at your own pace, but make sure to always put one hundred percent into it. Everything in life will be hard to some extent, but as long as you try your best it will be worth it in the end.
I will forever have your back and I will never stop being your big sister. Every time you have a hard test to study for, I'll quiz you. If you don't understand a class or you aren't sure which teacher will make your life a living hell, ask my opinion. Don't know what decision to make? I am one phone call away. Not sure how to tell mom and dad about something? Run it by me first. If I don't like your girlfriend I will let you know in the nicest way possible. I will support you in everything you do. When a girl breaks your heart I will be there to punch her and help you move on (cause I never liked her anyway). I will be there when you graduate high school, and you will be there when I graduate from college. I will be there for your wedding, and I will help you get through those wedding jitters. I love you more with everyday and I miss you with all my heart. I know I am moving farther away next year, but we will always make time for our lazy day movie marathons and video game binges.
Your sister always,
Shannon
