In today's youth, you never really read or hear about someone of a younger age giving up something that is theirs to help others, but I am here to tell you a little bit about the awesome kid I got to spend my entire summer with: my nephew. I know what you are thinking, "Why would a 21-year-old enjoy spending her WHOLE summer with a 10-year-old boy?" Here is why: Joe (which is my nephew's name) is a kid I would call my best friend, he keeps me positive throughout the day. I have gotten to see him grow so much this summer and become an amazing young man and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for him.
This is me having a super proud aunt moment. He helped out at church when Monroe/West Monroe flooded, he prays with his "bodyguards" at church, and shaved his head for St. Baldrick's last year and is doing it again this year. For being ten, he has done more for others than some adults have in their lifetime. Have you ever heard the phrase, "Be the hands and the feet of the Lord."? That is the phrase that comes to mind when I think of my Joe. Here is a link to follow if you would like to donate to Joe for this year's St. Baldrick's event:
To my Joe:
I love you, my kid. There is no one else I would want to watch play little league baseball. I know I am hard on you, but that is because I know what you are capable of. I am hard on you because I want you to be the best Joe that I know you can be. I am beyond proud of everything you have accomplished and everything you will accomplish. Thank you for always singing with me in the car even though you hate to sing, and for always trying to talk me into going on The Voice (which is not ever going to happen). Thanks for being my buddy in church and sitting by me. Thanks for always being yourself and putting others first. You have amazed me beyond belief, and I am sure you will continue to do so. I know I say you talk so much, which you do, but ever since school has started I have missed hearing you talk my ear off every day. Keep reaching for the stars and pursuing your dreams, kiddo.
Love,
Your Favorite Aunt
