To My High School Coach

A long-overdue thank you.

To My High School Coach
Abbie Townsend

Dear Coach,

Let me just start out by saying that I miss you more than you know and I can't thank you enough for everything that you've done for me.

To be completely honest with you, I was very skeptical my freshman year when all of us cheerleaders were told that you were going to be our new coach for basketball season. All of us were, because we had no idea who you were, and I'm sure you could tell a little bit. But looking back on it now, that should've been exciting news.

Through the three years that you were my coach, I knew I could go to you for anything. You have never been just a coach to me, you've been a friend and a mentor. You were always there for me on my worst days, and you probably know me better than most people do. To this day, I can hear your voice in the back of my mind when I need advice. You always told me the complete opposite of what I wanted to hear, but it was always the honest truth and I'm so incredibly grateful for that.

Sometimes we didn't quite see eye to eye, and I know I even let you down a few times. Reflecting on those years, though, I can see now that you were right about basically everything and I probably should've listened to you more often. I'm sure you have known that for awhile now. Even when I did choose the opposite of what you suggested, you always did your best to support me along the way, and I'm so grateful for that support too.

Your advice and ideas have helped shape me into who I am today. I'm more confident, and overall a stronger woman because of you. I most definitely have better style too. Mostly, though, you gave me a sense of class that I'm the most grateful for. I wouldn't be anywhere near who I am without your guidance in my life.

I want to make sure you know that I miss your crazy self, your unwanted-but-always-right advice, and your constant support. I miss all of our laughs and all of our life talks. I'm still sorry for the times that I let you down, and I hope you know that if I could go back and change my actions I would. Thank you for helping me become the person that I am today.

Love,

Your Favorite Cheerleader

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
