Where do I even begin? Well first off, I miss you; we all do. We all wish you could still be here. But I think we all take solace in the fact that your wings were ready, that you’re where you want to be, and you are happy.
I wish you could’ve physically seen me graduate, even though I know you were watching the whole time. I also know that you saw me trip and almost fall :) I wish you could see the wonderful kids that your great-grandchildren are becoming, even though I’m sure that you already know how awesome they are. I wish you could’ve met the twins. I wish you could’ve seen me dance at halftime on my senior night. I wish you could’ve seen me off to my first day of college. I wish you could still be here.
I promise I remember you how you were, not how you had been. I promise that when I think about you guys, I don’t remember hospitals or visits from the hospice nurses. I remember your many trips to McDonald’s or Long John Silvers, then coming home to sit in your favorite chairs and watch your favorite TV shows. I promise I’ll tell my kids about you. I’ll tell them about how you were, without fail, always there when anyone needed you to be. I’ll tell them about how you were never seen without a smile. I’ll tell them about how you never knew a stranger.
Overall, I’m thankful for the hand you all had in raising me to be the person I am today. I’m thankful for the memories. I’m thankful for the Saturday nights I spent at your house, sitting on the living room floor, watching whatever I wanted to watch, playing Go Fish. I’m thankful to have grandparents as wonderful as I did.
I hope you guys are having an awesome time up there.
Sincerely,
Your Favorite Grandchild (it’s okay, I won’t tell the others)
