To My Freshman Friends As We Enter Sophomore Year

When I moved into my freshman dorm on August 29, 2015, I never expected to make so many amazing friends. While some relationships caused drama and stress, I learned how to stand up for myself and learned who my real friends were, so to those people who I no longer talk to or associate myself with, thank you for helping me grow. This article isn't about the relationships that have ended, but about the relationships that started and will grow even stronger this upcoming year.

This is for all the friends I made during the second semester of freshman year (you know who you are). You welcomed me into your friend group and treated me like you've known me since day one. You were so friendly and cordial that I finally realized what it was like to have true friends. I loved all the adventures that freshman year delivered and I am so excited to see what sophomore year brings.

Freshman year was so easy because we all lived in the same building (except for Marisa, of course). If we wanted to hang out all we had to do was take the stairs (OK, the elevator) to each other's floors. It upsets me that we are going to be living in different buildings, but it upsets me even more that it's going to become so much harder to see you all. I knew things were bound to change, but I never expected things to move so fast. I want you to know that no matter how much things change, you made my freshman year so memorable and I will always cherish your friendship. I hope you are all in my life forever because you guys have taught me so much and make life so much fun.

To my freshman roommate, Alex. I know we never expected to like each other, but look at us now, becoming roommates for the second year. I'm honestly shocked that you decided to put up with me for another year, but I want to thank you for it. You made my freshman year so entertaining and you made our room feel like a home away from home. I know we've had our ups and downs, but who hasn't? Thank you so much for being an amazing roommate and I can't wait to see what sophomore year has in store for us.

So, my friends, as we enter sophomore year, I have only one thing to say to you. I love you so much and I know we have a great year ahead of us.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
