Dear Future Students,
You are all probably around 5 or 6 years old right now, which means this whole school thing is pretty new to you. Luckily, I’ve been doing this for quite sometime now! However, this whole teaching thing is pretty new to me… and if I said I wasn’t nervous to be your teacher all on my own, I would be lying. As your teacher it is my job to teach you as much as I can and push you to grow, while still being there for you. There is a lot of material that I need to teach and if I don’t have teachable students, I can’t do my job! These are the years where your feelings will get hurt and your knees will get scraped but that’s what develops character. As a class, we will have days that are horrible and days that you could never forget, but that’s how school goes.
One of the biggest lessons that I have for you is, never cry over spilled milk. I mean that in a literal way and a nonliteral way. Yes, the lunch aids will not be satisfied that they have to clean up yet, another spilled milk. But that is no reason to cry, just apologize and finish eating. On the other hand, spilled milk is really no big deal, just like a lot of things that will happen throughout the school day. If you forget your homework, your lunch, gym clothes, your item for show and tell, or any other silly little thing, I don’t want you to fret. I understand that mom was rushing out the door this morning or you overslept and left it on the counter, we’re all humans and part of being human is making mistakes. So don’t worry or cry about forgetting things, I will understand. All I ask is that it doesn’t become a habit.
So my promise to you, being my first class, is that I will put in 110 percent in to this school year and I ask you to do the same. I will go the extra five miles, even if it means staying after school to teach you different methods to solving math problems; making up a song with you so you can do well on your science test; or just giving you a pick-me-up so ensure that you have a good day. Since you all will be my first students, I will remember you that much more than future students and I want to make this the best year of your schooling career. Learning is just as important to me as teaching and I will do my best to make sure you all understand the material. As much as I do want to be your favorite teacher, I want to be your best even more. Being your best teacher means that I didn’t stop at trying to help you succeed. Your success is my success.
I hope you all enjoy this journey as we start our first year together!
Your future teacher,
Ms. Wesolowski or Ms. W because I know my last name can be a mouthful!
