An Open Letter To My Cousin

To my best friend, my person;

Not everyone gets someone like you; someone to laugh with, to cry with, to go see cheesy movies with. Someone that belts out show tunes with you in the car, or goes to a birthday dinner with you every year, or comes with you to do boring things like run errands or buy books. Someone that goes to broadway shows with you, or goes prom dress shopping with you, or even shopping for curtains for your dorm room with you. I've been blessed enough to have this person built in.

For as long as I can remember, you've been there. Whenever I needed you, whether I wanted you or not, you've been standing or sitting right beside me. I don't think I have a childhood memory without you in it; whether we were getting into trouble by dying our barbie doll's hair, or putting on shows for our family members, or even me pushing you off of the desk and almost making you crack your head open (Sorry about that, by the way), all of the best memories I have have you in them. Every hard time I've ever gone through, you've been with me to listen to me complain and cry and you've been there to make me laugh and feel okay again.

I love you so, so much. I love that I have you to give me book recommendations, to make stupid jokes with me, to sit next to at family parties, and I love that I've always had that in you. I love that I have a built in maid of honor, a partner in crime for the entirety of my life.

I think that everyone in life gets one or wo people that really understand them, that really know who they are and what they are like. Someone that thinks their jokes are funny (even when they aren't), who will be there to see that movie a third time with them, someone there to make stupid videos with and to tell embarrassing stories to. Someone that really just gets it. And I really believe that you are my person.

So thank you. Thank you for being my Eliza, my soul mate, my kindred spirit. Thank you for being a better person than I'll ever be, for being brave and kind and funny and smart. Thank you for making me believe that I can be any and all of these things, and for letting me be myself, but pushing me to be my best self. And thank you for being yourself, so fully and wholeheartedly.

Most importantly, thank you for being my best friend.

Love always,

Your big cousin Katie

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
