A year has come and gone and in the next week, you'll be done with high school for good. All the hard work and effort you've done for 13 years is about to pay off. On the outside, you can't wait to leave and never enter those halls again, but on the inside whether you want to admit it or not- you're going to miss it.
Now for my part. I can't believe you're really graduating. Time has flown by not only for you but for me too. It seems like yesterday we were at Cook Out before you left for open house and now look at us. We're finally together. This past year I've had the privilege to be by your side as you did this thing called life for your senior year and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. From you complaining about Honeycutt to you be stopped by the police because you were late to school (one of many times you were late *rolling eyes*). My favorite thing has been us talking about your games because it's something we've always done from the moment we started talking all the way until now.
I am so proud of you. You're going to hear that a lot as you graduate from a lot of people but I'm going to say it. I know school is by far a no go for you. But look at you! You're done! Now onto college (woohoo). This time spent with you as you're almost out of high school I've been able to see you grow and achieve so much. You may not realize it but later on, as you look back, you'll see what I mean. I've been lucky enough to be a part of your journey on "the best years of your life" and as that chapter closes I'm ecstatic I'll be there when you start your new chapter.
Even with me at Campbell, you still managed to deal with all of my college meltdowns and bad days while juggling senior year. Going out of your way to see me, bring me food, or just make my day 100 times better. You were always there when I needed you and never let me down. You've helped me get my life on track and you've been by my side as I figure out what I was meant to do in this world and understand that things take time. You've always been my biggest supporter and rock. While Campbell was close to you and right by Central, it's going to suck that we're going different places that (to me) is so far away. But you always tell me "It's just a little longer away that doesn't mean I won't come see you" and "Stop worrying everything is going to be okay". I just want you right by my side and I hate when you have to leave. Not being 10 minutes away while we're in school like we used to be sucks. But it's all going to be okay!
Okay so as you leave for college let me just give you some pointers. Do NOT and I mean DO NOT sign up for an 8 or 9 am class. You just won't be able to do it. I know you and I've come to learn you can't get to school on time so you definitely won't want to get up in time for those classes. Also when you're choosing your schedule, look at the professors on rate my professor and see what he/she is like before you select it. This is a life saver. Now for your apartment!! DISHWASHER SOAP (if you have one) and DISH SOAP ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. To keep this from happening just get paper plates and bowls even though you'll probably eat out most of the time. Make sure you park in the right parking lot even if it's for 5 minutes because if you don't you're going to get a nice little ticket. Please, dear God do your laundry; get some tide pods so all you have to do is throw them in there and be done. Studying. Now I know you are not going to do this you're going to play fortnite. But you need to study and don't wait till the last minute (I'm serious I know you're laughing at this part). Just a little bit every day at least. Don't stay out or up too late the night before you have a test or presentation, even if it is at 3:00. You'll be just as exhausted. Check your student email and blackboard like ALL the time. Sometimes teachers will email you or post when they cancel class and you don't want to go alll the way there and go alll the way back. Make sure you do extra credit!! This will help a LOT. And lastly, use your absences wisely; don't miss a bunch of class because some professors will use that against your grade. This is all the mom sense coming out in me sorryyy.
I know you're beyond ready to leave but I don't want you to yet. Just like you'll miss your games, I will too. The one I got to watch you play made me so happy because I was able to actually be there and support you while watching you do what you love. Our Moe's dates and even just sitting in the parking lot, I loved. Surprising you on your birthday and you surprising me with Crocs. All the memories we've made over the past two years. I know we have so much in store for us and many more memories to make but I wish time would just slow down for a bit. This summer is going to be so great with you by my side and us doing things together like going to the beach. I just want time to slow down before things get crazy again with school. But we do have another thing to look forward to for the fall and that's the fair! We have the rest of our lives to make memories together but when I'm with you time flies so fast, I just want it to s l o w d o w n. Before you know it we'll be graduating college and starting to actually work. We'll actually be adults. How crazy.
Now and always I'm going to be your number one supporter and be right by your side through everything. College won't be a breeze and I know you don't take it as harshly as I did like crying over a C, but I'll be right there to help you finish your paper because you thought it was due tomorrow, or help you with math because you just absolutely hate it. We have our whole life ahead of us and this is another stepping stone for what's to come. I can't wait to see what big things you accomplish along with what God has in store for you! You're going to do big things Hunter Nathan. I can't wait to see you walk across that stage and turn your tassel. I love you now and always.
