Dear Best Friend,
I’m so happy you’re doing well at school. Remember our late night talks during the weeks before moving in? We were so scared of everything that was about to change, devastated to say goodbye and worried about making new friends. Looking at us now, it’s so crazy to think about how nervous we were. I’m really happy here. I’ve made some awesome friends and I know you’d love them as much as I do.
But I want to make sure you know something. No matter how many new girls I’m fortunate enough to welcome into my life, there is always a special spot just for you.
No matter how busy I am or how much time passes between our “life update” FaceTimes, I miss you more than you know. I miss sleeping on your bedroom floor every weekend. I miss blasting music in your car after school. I miss knowing every detail of your day. It’s so weird to be so far apart and only see you every few months.
I love my new friends endlessly. They make me so happy and I have no clue what I'd do without them. I love going out with them. I love discovering new things about them. I love making new memories with them every day. But there are some memories that only you understand. No one else can laugh with me until we cry about that time I got tangled in a soccer goal and broke my arm in the 9th grade. No one else feels my pain when I talk about how badly I need an order of buffalo fries from our favorite place to eat (you know which one I’m talking about). No one else knows just how much of a dramatic overreaction is needed when my ex-ex-ex-boyfriend texts me (Yeah, THAT one). Because no one else was there through it all.
You’ve been there for every heartbreak, embarrassing moment and complete disaster – you’ve seen it all. You know me better than anyone and that will never change. When things go wrong, and they often do, I want you to know I’m only a phone call away. When you need to vent about something I don't even understand, I'm here. Even if it’s 3 a.m. on a Tuesday and I have two exams the next day, I will always make time for you. And I know you’d do the same for me. I miss you every day, but I know that being apart will only make our holiday reunions that much better. Don't think for one second that just because we've moved on to different schools, I'd ever move on from our friendship. You’re my best friend, always, and no one can take your place.
And to the girls who are lucky enough to now spend every day with my best friend… Take care of her. She’s one of the best.
Love,
Your Best Friend Forever
