Dear best friend,
We have had so many laughs, and memories made this summer from walks on the beach to concerts to late night crying sessions at Inkwell, and it has been some of the best times of my life. You head back to college in just a few days, and it makes me sad to think that I won't get to spend every weekend with you for a while. As you head off on your adventure again, I have some thoughts I would like to leave with you.
1. Work Hard, But Not Too Hard.
I want you to make the most of your education and study your butt off so you can be the great person I know that you are. However, do not work yourself to death. I am expecting lots of pictures of your adventures without me (although I doubt they will be as fun).
2. Never, Ever Give Up.
I know classes are going to be hard, and homework is so time consuming but do not ever give up on your goals and what you are working towards. Life can get so crazy, but you have the tools you need to stay focused and keep getting stronger every day. Grab an extra shot of espresso and keep pressing on.
3. Do Not Forget Who You Are.
I know you well and you want nothing more in this world than to make someone smile, which is something I love you for. This is great and all but remember that you have wants and needs too and you deserve your own piece of happiness.
4. Please Keep In Touch.
I know you have lots of friends out at school and college life can consume a lot of your time, but I still love you. Call me now and again so I can hear about you drowning in homework and how cute that guy in your history class is and just about anything else you want to tell me. No matter who you meet in college or how much a whirlwind life is, I'm always going to be here for you.
5. I Am So Proud Of You.
You worked so hard to get to where you are and it seems like I blinked and now one of the most important people in my life is halfway through college and I could not be more proud. I have nothing but confidence that you are going to shine in whatever you choose to do in college and beyond.
These are just five of the thousands of things I want to tell my best friend as she packs up the car and heads away for another year at school. I wish you nothing but happiness and joy as you continue to embark on the wild ride called college. As I sit here doing college work from the comfort of my bed, I admire and marvel at the fact that my best friend can go out and experience it first hand. Here's to you, my best friend on your continuing adventure. I am so glad to be a piece of your story.
