To my best friend,
It’s our second year apart from each other but it doesn’t make it any easier. If anything, it is getting harder. Life is getting more difficult, we are getting older and actually starting to see what life is like on our own; or as we like to call it, “adulting.”
I think the worst part about “adulting” is that even though you’re only a 3-4 hour drive away and I could take a weekend off and come see you, I can’t because I am loaded with homework, meetings, and work. You’re even close enough to take a day trip, but then I have to think about how much money I’m spending in gas and food on the trip there, and I can’t even swing that.
I never wanted you to leave in the first place, but in my first year of college I met so many other people, made several friends, and focused more on a social life than school. Mostly because the classes were easy and being social is important, but also because I needed something to keep me occupied because you weren’t there anymore. The other friends, parties, and getting into the swing of college kept me busy. But now that I’m getting into my major and having to skip out on social things for homework and studying, more than ever I need your advice, your jokes, but mostly just your company.
You know me better than anyone and know exactly what to do to make me feel better. When I’m stressed, I can text you and you’re almost always there to answer, but it is just not the same. I feel like I am still a part of your life because I see your posts on social media and we talk every day, but I’m not physically there doing life with you and it’s hard. You’re trying new things and gaining new experiences and don’t get me wrong, I am too; I just wish we were doing them together.
I just hope you’re enjoying life where you are and living life to the fullest because I want to hear all the stories, even though I’m not in them. I also want you to know that nothing has changed between us. No matter how long we go without talking or hanging out, it is going to be the same as it was before when we see each other again. That’s the best part of our friendship, that we will truly never be apart; maybe in distance, but not in the heart. I love you and I can’t wait to see you again.
