To My Audiences

My open letter to the masses losing trust in the media.

To my audiences,

I know many of you question the media right now. Many of you don’t know if you can trust the media anymore, especially in a world with fake news and a 24-hour news cycle often leading to mistakes.

As someone who works in the media and will work with the media, I make these promises to you.

First, I will report everything with accuracy. As I learned in my media writing class at the University of Oklahoma, accuracy is the paramount quality of all media writing, and I will never knowingly report false information. I vow to fact check everything I share, create, or publish.

Next, I promise to report everything objectively. People often get entangled with one side of an issue. As a journalist, I will seek out both sides of an issue to ensure objectivity. As a public relations professional, I will keep my publics and organization in mind and write objectively by staying clear of unverified claims and puffy writing.

Thirdly, I will write and advocate ethically. I will never write or publish something with the intention of hurting someone’s reputation. I will never represent someone who engages in unethical behavior. I will do everything I can to create mutually beneficial relationships between my organization and my publics. I will abide by the Public Relations Society of America’s Code of Ethics.

Finally, I will support good, investigative journalism. People often refer to the media as watchdogs entrusted with the function of uncovering any wrongdoing in the government and elsewhere. I will share the outlets continually investigating the government and other organizations without bias. Without continued support, these outlets won’t be able to do what they do and bringing the truth to the public.

Rebuilding the media’s reputation is going to take some serious work. I want everyone who reads the things I publish and share to know I will do what I can to be the best media writer I can be.

Please, don’t lose faith totally. Many of us are still try to do the right thing and inform the masses accurately and honestly.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
