Dear Kelsey,
I know you’ve been missing me since I’ve been at college. I’m sorry that I won’t be there for your 15th birthday. I am also sorry that I haven’t texted you in a while. I hope that sophomore year is going well for you and that you and your friends are enjoying life. I figured I would dedicate this letter to you since you have been a big part of me growing up, and I miss you. In this letter I want to tell you about everything there is to know about growing up. It’s not easy, but I know you can do it.
High school was a great time. New friends and amazing teachers are what made high school worthwhile for me. Have fun with your friends. Make memories that you’ll keep with you forever. It’ll be hard leaving them behind after four years of constant memories, but I promise you that these memories will make you grow as a person and will help you in the long run. Now, I know it may seem tedious and even a little scary, but get to know your teachers. Through my four years, my teachers were the biggest support system I had. Go to them when you are in need and I know they will do anything in their power to fulfill your needs. It’ll be hard at first, but I know you can do it.
My next piece of advice is to enjoy quality time with your parents, because in a few years they won’t be at college with you and you’ll miss them. I know sometimes they might get on your nerves, but at the end of the day they love you more than you will ever know. Being away from your parents is a scary feeling. The freedom is amazing, but at the end of the day it would sometimes be nice to know that mom or dad is waiting for you at home. Enjoy the time you have at home. Go hiking with dad a few times and then help mom with the groceries. I know it may seem boring now, but in the future you’ll miss those times.
Lastly, enjoy your alone time. No one really enjoys being alone all the time, but sometimes it’s necessary to be alone. Take those alone times and reflect on life. In college it’s hard to get alone time. There are people everywhere, and a lot of days I would love to just get away from everyone. I encourage you to every day put in your earbuds and listen to your favorite track. You’ll be amazed how fifteen minutes of listening to music can make your day better.
Growing up is hard. It’s full of of bumpy roads and hard times, but I know you have the heart and the brains to make it through those times. You know that I am only a phone call away. If you ever need someone to talk to, I’m here for you. Enjoy your life in high school because in a blink of an eye you’re in college.
