Rape. Such a terrifying and sickening word. Something that no person should ever have to experience and go through. Yet, almost two years ago, you were someone that experienced this absurd and horrendous act.
I remember the hell you walked through two years ago and the hell that you still walk through today. I remember your sleepless nights and how tired you were. I remember the agony and heartbreak that you were facing and experiencing inside. I can never begin to imagine how hard it all was for you. All I do know is how strong you were and the strength you now possess.
I have had the pleasure of knowing you for almost four years now and I don't think I have ever been more proud of you. With all that life has thrown at you, you have risen above. You have refused to let it get you down and you have fought back. You have fought back against the sickening "norm" that is associated with rape and sexual assault at the collegiate level, but you haven't stopped there. You are fighting back against the "norm" that is associated with rape and sexual assault in society as a whole. Even when outsiders try to beat you down, you have not given in.
You have not let your situation define you. You have continued to empower and encourage so many young women all around you. You are speaking out about injustices when so many others stay silent. You are a guiding light and you are working to bring so much positive change to such a sick part of society.
I can never tell you enough how proud I am of you and how blessed I am to call you my best friend. You are helping and reaching more people than you know. Your light shines brightly wherever you go and anyone that crosses paths with you is more blessed for it. Keep shining your light. Keep speaking your truth and encouraging others to speak theirs as well. Keep fighting back and working for change. I promise I will be here every step of the way.
I love you mean it a million times.
