3 Reasons To Wear Those Pumps With Pride

Coming in at just under 5’10”, I’ve never exactly been one of the people to stand in the front of group pictures. Which between you and me, is just fine-- who knows what to do with their arms in pictures anyway? This being said, there is still a ridiculous number of people out there, who for some reason, think I am unaware of where the top of my head is proportional to the ground. “Wait you’re kidding me. I’m ‘so’ tall?

I never would have known, thank God you told me!” (Tall and very sarcastic, that is.) Needless to say, this only gets worse when I put heels on. I’ve become very accustomed to these sorts of reactions, and have actually found great confidence in my height (after a number of years, mind you). And this all being said, here are my top three reason why we tall women need high heels, too.

1. Long legs are fab, longer legs are fab-er

Tall women have long legs, and when we slip those heels on, they just get that much longer! “Gosh, I just wish my fabulous long legs were shorter,” said no one ever! Long legs are great for a number of reasons: making every hallway and street sidewalk your own personal runway, getting places faster since your steps are bigger than anyone else’s, being able to see over every crowd you find yourself in, and casually tripping that person who was talking smack about your height (kidding, sort of). High heels help each and every one of those examples.

2. Men don’t know what to do with you

This might be my favorite reason. After years of wearing flats to dances and on dates in fear of making the male who was joining me uncomfortable and awkward, I decided to embrace my height and my love of heels. This is who I am, dang it! Why should I have to disregard an entire section of my wardrobe to try to minimize or hide the genes that I was born with? The answer: I shouldn’t. I am pretty sure that I have literally scared men away by my height when I’m in heels. And so be it. Can’t handle me in heels? That’s okay, you wouldn’t be able to keep up anyway.

3. THEY ARE FABULOUS

When else in your life can you walk around on handmade platforms and spikes ready for battle? What other piece of your wardrobe could you totally use as a weapon if need be? Utility, self-defense, and style all in one shoe. Every color, every material, studs, sequins, clasps, straps, you name it. Plus, there is an undeniable sense of pride, elegance, and fierceness that comes with wearing high heels. Because you know you are a tall chica who is strutting down that grocery aisle, into that job interview, across the school courtyard like no one has ever strut before.

However! If heels aren’t your thing, big deal! It’s not about doing something you aren’t comfortable with. It’s about feeling confident about the things you want to do and love. It’s about you. Do what you love, and love what you do. If that’s wearing heels, well then darn it, do that too.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
