To Be Busy Is A Treasure
Sarah Pace

As one thing comes to an end, yet another is just beginning. Life has a funny way of rarely letting us sit down, take a deep breath, and relax. There’s something invigorating (most times) about constantly having something to do. If we are busy, we are on the track to accomplishing so many things. You could be reading a book, finishing a run, watching the end of a performance, leaving a museum. All of these things leave you with some sort of accomplishment if you truly think about it--- you have gained something. Whether that something is tangible, or more figurative like knowledge, culture, experience, etc.

To be busy is a treasure. We take so many things for granted in this fast paced life that sometimes it’s difficult to sit back and “smell the roses.” Sure, free time is also a treasure, but have you ever had those days where boredom sets in and you would give anything to be with your friends on an adventure, or learning something new, or simply making a drive just to get away and listen to music and clear your head? I believe we are meant to be out in the world exploring. We have restless souls. So many people are constantly hungering to be out in the world, so many people have a great wanderlust, and so many people want to DO something with their lives. What a treasure it is to constantly be occupied and have a life full of the things we love.

Yes, life can be overwhelming when we fill it with so many events and activities, but I hope you fill it with the things you love. I recently talked to a dear friend of mine whom I haven’t spoken to in awhile, but one thing they mentioned that will never leave me is this: “I am so happy you are pursuing your dreams. Seeing you do what you’ve always talked about makes me want to find and do that something.”

Think about what makes you happiest. Think of the thing you could talk about for hours on end. What preoccupies your mind? What makes you feel as if being busy is worth it? What would you drop nearly anything for just to have it be a part of your life for forever? Do you know what that "thing" is? Have you found something that seems to give you purpose?

I hope you find what you love and pursue it relentlessly. I hope you approach everything with a purpose. Find what you love, and let it consume you. Let there be a fire that ignites your bones and reaches the depths of your soul. I hope you live a life full of passion for whatever you do. Stay happy, my friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
