This is for all the aunties that are wrapped around their niece/nephew's tiny, little finger.
To be an auntie, it’s such a beautiful thing. I watched you grow from your mommy’s tummy and into a beautiful bundle of joy. Aside from the fact that you cried the majority of the time and made most of my shirts your new burping cloth. It’s okay, I didn’t like that shirt anyways. Rocking you was my favorite thing to do, and just when I thought I couldn't love you anymore, you wrapped your tiny fingers around mine. I watched you coo and roll over and thought to myself, “how could something so small take up so much room in my heart?” Hearing you laugh, watching you grow, it was all worth the Saturday nights I skipped going out to come visit you. I was there when you took your first steps, and I've been right there in the car next to you singing your ABCs. There are countless pictures and videos of you on my phone. You’re dancing, singing, and melting my heart. Thanks to you, I know every character from Paw Patrol. Thanks to you, my heart is full. I am so excited to watch you learn and grow even more. You are already such a wonderful human being, and in my eyes you can do no wrong. Not even the time you spilled pretzels in the floor and then you screamed, "Auntie, help!" All while crushing the pretzels with your feet. Who knew such a tiny human could make such a huge mess?
You will forever hold a special piece of my heart. A piece that is completely yours, a piece that holds all the memories we have already made, and memories we are yet to make. You have made being an auntie such a blessing. You have already made such a huge impact in my life and you are only two years old. I am excited to see the person you become, I am excited for all the new things you will teach me, and I am excited for many more years of being your auntie! You have taught me such an important lesson: when the rest of the world walks out, your nephew never will. I was your very first best friend, and you were my entire world. Looking back on all the fun things we have done, and all the crazy things you have muttered out of your tiny mouth, I can't help but think, being an auntie is such a beautiful thing.
