If you’ve known me for longer than a week, you know it’s no secret that December 25th is my favorite day out of the year. You’d also know that the time between November 1st and January 1st is my favorite time of year. Everything smells better, the weather gets cooler, everything looks and sounds and feels happier. Even people are generally nicer. But despite all of that, there are still people who thrive off of broadcasting that “it’s not even Thanksgiving yet.” Well, to those people, I have three things to say to you. Buckle up.
1. It's called the Holiday season for a reason.
Thanksgiving and Christmas go together. Like I said above, everyone is generally in a better mood. There is endless food throughout the holiday season. There is less fighting. Families are constantly together celebrating life and each other. Also, the Macy’s parade literally ends with Santa. So back off. There’s a method to the madness of why stores decorate and put out wrapping paper before November 24th. It’s because the air changes as soon as October ends. People everywhere are ready to be around other people and feel that special feeling that only comes this time of year (sorry I had too).
2. Happiness is contagious. Maybe you should try some.
Seriously, how can you not be excited that it’s finally the holiday season? Especially with the election that is never going to end, this is the greatest time of all to be around happy people. You look more attractive when you’re happy and you also feel better, so why force yourself to be unhappy? Stop being a Grinch and give into the holiday spirit. Trust me, you’ll feel better about yourself.
3. It's never too early to celebrate the birth of the Son who saved us.
Yes, this is a fun time. Yes, this is a time where we give those we care about gifts and food and love. But this is also a time where we remember and celebrate the reason that we are even alive. Without Christ, we would have no future. There wouldn’t be a reason to give thanks or celebrate this season or even get up in the morning. I get so excited about this time of year not only because of the presents and trees and lights, but because I know I couldn’t get excited about the presents and trees and lights if Christ had not been born 2,016 years ago. I have so many people to be thankful for and so many things to celebrate, but I know that I have Christ to thank for all of those things.
So, with all of that, stop saying that “it’s too early,” or “It’s not even Thanksgiving yet.” Let people be happy and joyful. If you really are against it that much, then start the “I’m against Christmas” club and enjoy being secluded in a mountain. If the Grinch can change, so can you. Merry Christmas y’all.
