To All Of My Middle School Classmates
Abbey Marzen

Dear SCS Class of 2013,

I hope all of you are doing well. It seems like just yesterday that we were all walking out the doors, crying and hugging each other, and wishing we could make middle school last a little longer. Middle school is often an awkward time in life. But it is the time of my life that I'm happy I spent with all of you.

After going to high school, I realized that we weren't a "traditional" middle school. While most kids don't know half of the people in their class, we all knew each other. We all knew each other's personal lives, for the most part, and we were all friends (minus the minor drama some of us had with each other).

I just want all of you to know that all of you are in my prayers. It's been crazy to watch all of us grow up, and now we are all about to go onto bigger and better things, like college and life. It just seems like yesterday to me that we were all 13 and arguing over stupid things.

I wrote this open letter to you in the hopes that some of you will reach out to me and tell me how your lives are going. I'm so excited to watch everyone graduate and go on with their lives. It's insane how much we've all changed. In middle school, I was a little blonde chick. Now my hair is dark brown, I'm taking college classes, and I (hopefully) no longer look 11 years old.

For those of you who have no idea what you're doing with your life, I want you to know that it's perfectly okay to be unsure. That's the great thing about life. You get to try and fail on repeat. I know that all of you are extraordinary people, and I have no doubt that you will make something of yourself.

To those of you who know exactly what they want to do, that's great too. I've known what I've wanted to do with my life for a very long time, and it's so exciting to watch it all be put into action. For me, taking college classes has been a bit of a wake-up call to life. The classes you take in college actually mean something for your future. Not to say that high school isn't important, but once you get into college your high school grades don't matter nearly as much.

I hope and pray that all of you have a positive outlook on your future. I hope that God has had a significant impact on all of your lives. I hope that you put smiles on others faces like you all put a smile on mine. I hope all of you think of me from time to time, and think about all of your other classmates every now and then. I hope you laugh when you think of all the moments we had.

To others, this letter probably sounds super strange. But no one had a bond like we all had. Now that we are all getting ready to graduate in the spring, my hope is that all of you continue to be great people, and make an impact on the world.

God bless,

Abbey

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
