There is nothing like college life, believe me, nothing. It's a strange world, really an alternative universe, but eventually you settle in and learn your way. If there's anything I've taken from the past two and a half years it's that the key to conquering college is living by tips.
Here are five tips that all college kids should know...
1. Seasoning
It isn't until you move into your first apartment that you realize how important seasoning is to your diet. Salt and pepper, obvious, but garlic, onion powder, parsley, etc... Who would of thought you'd need all of that stuff? But, like every college student, life is on a budget. I'm talking a really cheap, twenty dollars a week budget. And yes in real life seasonings aren't that expensive, but in college that stuff is as pricey as liquid gold. So what do you do? I've got two word for you-- dinning halls. Almost every dinning hall I've ever been to allows you to take as much pepper, salt, ketchup, Sriracha, etc., your heart could desire.
So, you're a student too, right? With all the money you pay to go to that school, you should never be paying for condiments.
2. Laundry
So hopefully your washing machines are free, if not, that's screwed up. Detergent is a must and nothing is more annoying than finally gathering the energy to do your laundry only to realize you're all out of detergent. A little tip for nights like those, because if it hasn't happened to you yet, it will, simply just add hot water to the detergent bottle and mix it around... There you go! It's that simple! Should be good for one load.
3. Skipping Class
If your guilty pleasure on a crumby afternoon is skipping class and watching Netflix in bed, the best time to do it is a week or two before an exam. Chances of there being an attendance quiz are slim because it's usually the time of the year the professors try to cram as much in as possible so they cover everything for the test. An attendance quiz is waisting valuable time. Of course I don't support skipping class but hey, sometimes we all need a day off.
4. Textbooks
Always wait! Don't buy them ahead of time. Write in the Facebook group and see if people who have taken the course before you have used the book. Nothing is worse than spending a copious amount of money on a book you never even open.
5. RateMyProfessor
Just do it. Listen to the rates, and do it.
6. Find Someone In Your Class
It is so important to know or meet at least one person in each of your classes. Having a go-to number to text when you have a question or need help studying can make all the difference. Nothing is worse than trying to figure out the due date or format of a project on your own.
