Finals are right around the corner and they can be stressful as everything. Don't fret though, there are many ways to get through finals week and survive. A lot of it has to do with study habits and sleep.

Studying seems like a drag, but with proper habits it makes it easier. There is more to test taking and studying than what some people actually think.

1. Sleep

Sleep is vital during finals because sleep is when the brain is most active putting information into long term or short term. Meaning keeping important information and storing it.

Don't stay up too late studying for tests. Always take a break so your brain can rest for a few before another round of studying.

2. Eat good before your tests

Make sure to eat good breakfast before the test. Yes, a college student eating before a test seems impossible, but if you get a good night sleep and get up at a decent time eat. It helps wake you up and gets you going for the day.

Food gives you energy to do things, so eating before a test will boost your energy and help you stay awake.

3. Read before a test

Read something before you go into the test. Don't read on your phone because that can hurt your eyes. Read something from a textbook or from a newspaper. This stimulates the brain and wakes it up and helps prepare for that long test.

4. Instrumental music to study

It has been proven that listening to music without lyrics while studying can help retain information and help study. By listening to music without lyrics it helps retain information and make reading material easier to comprehend.

Unlike music with lyrics or headbanging metal which can make it harder to concentrate on the study material.

5. Develop study habits

Studying is one of the most important aspects of finals. Don't make study sessions too long or your brain will essentially turn off. Study for 45 minutes and take a quick break.

Keep a snack with you, so you don't have to constantly get up and go out of your room. Study one subject at a time and don't constantly switch. Study one subject for 20 minutes then move on or study that one for 20minutes and take a break then move on.

Finals don't have to be stressful and scary nor does studying for them. Just don't overload on studying. Study only a few topics at a time. These things really work and will help for finals week. May the odds be ever in your favor!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
