The weeks leading up to finals are rough. You just went home to see your family for Thanksgiving and you are itching to go back home for the next month and not worry about homework or classes. Here are a few tips to help you get through the next few weeks.

1. Get at least 8 hours of sleep

It might be tough but sleep is essential when trying to study and get good grades on exams. Sleep helps with your memory so take a few naps and don't go to bed every night at 3 a.m.

2. Take breaks

It is very hard to work straight for 3 hours. I always like taking small breaks every half hour or so to either get food, watch a short video, or just relax. Try not to get too distracted though, otherwise, it will be hard to get back on track.

3. Try not to stress too much

I know this one is hard to hear, but stressing out too much will only make things worse. Try to remember that these exams are only a small portion of your life and should not be the only thing that is important. You are worth so much more than a 50-minute exam.

4. Go for a walk

This will help clear your mind. If you are stuck inside studying all day, or feel like you need a break, walking around can help clear your mind and keep your mind at peace.

5. Take a workout class

This is a great way to relieve stress and also helps in burning off some of those Thanksgiving dinner calories. They are free on campus so there is no excuse not to attend and if you bring a friend it makes it even more fun!

6. Treat yourself

Go get some coffee, ice cream, or something else enjoyable. You deserve it and it is another stress reliever. Just make sure not to overload on anything, especially coffee. You don't want to be wide awake until 1 a.m. if you don't need to be.

7. Find inspiration

Watch a motivational video or go study in a group. It is so hard to stay focused and get work done unless you have motivation.

8. Know everything is going to be O.K.

Finals may seem like the end of the world, especially if you are a freshman, but I promise you that you will get through them and survive.

9. Set specific goals

This is so that you can stay on track and keep yourself accountable for what you have to do.

10. Pet a dog (or another animal)

At many schools during finals week, there are therapy animals that come to help relieve stress of students. Take advantage of this service and pet a puppy!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
