We all know how eventful a week in college can be, there are so many possibilities of what just one week can bring, and by Friday, you are just so happy that it is over that you forget about keeping up all the good habits that you worked so hard to keep during the week. I know the struggle all too well, and chances are every student does. Here are some tips to having successful weekends during your college years.
1. Do not procrastinate
I repeat, do not procrastinate. This is by far the most important because it is just natural for us to not want anything to do with work. Even thinking about it makes you cringe. But the only thing worse than doing work when you least feel like it, is leaving it all to Sunday night and having to cram everything in when you have early classes the next morning.
2. Have good nutrition
Whatever you do during the week to stay healthy, it should be even better on the weekends, not worse. Many people I know, including myself, make this mistake all the time. You think, “It’s the weekend, time to do (and eat) whatever I want.” During the week, you have little time to think about nutrition or go to the gym, but during the weekends, you actually have the time to think about it and go out of your way to stay healthy, appreciate that privilege, and do not take it for granted.
3. Party, but not too hard
By all means, go to the party, make memories, because that’s what it’s all about. But we all know that partying way too hard every night just leads to some rough tomorrows. It takes a while to know your limits, but being able to go out at night and then be productive the next day is something that very few master until later on, but I can definitely say, the sooner the better.
4. Sleep
OK, don’t sleep the day away, but use this time to catch up on your sleep and recharge for the week ahead. I’ve learned that sleep is so crucial, and most people don’t get nearly enough. So if you’re one of those people who go to pull all-nighters during the week and then stay up until 4 in the morning on weekends, you should probably be finding a way to compensate for it, it will make a real difference. Plus, you won’t always feel and look like a zombie!
5. Get ahead
It is always a good idea to get ahead on any assignments, studying, emails, and just general planning out your week ahead of time. This allows you to know what’s in store for you in the coming week, therefore you won't be stressed and overwhelmed. If you write all of the things that you must do on paper, instead of just trying to remember it all, you will be a lot more efficient in doing them and it takes off a lot of the pressure.
Managing your time in college is a difficult thing to do, but just like everything, you learn as time goes on and figure out what works for you. Don’t let the weekends get away from you, there are only 52 of them a year, so use them wisely.
