Being healthy in college is extremely difficult! And I’m not telling you to go to the gym and eat kale. However, there are some things you can do that are easy, inexpensive, and not time consuming! At the end of the day, your health will determine how well you do in all of your daily activities!
1. Drink water
I know this is generic, but there is absolutely no substitute for water. If you consume a lot of energy drinks or caffeine, then always remember to balance it out with your water intake. You can always make your water more flavorful by adding cucumbers or lemons! And although drinking water seems pretty elementary, 1 in every 5 women has a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Drinking water is very crucial to flush out bacteria from your body. As college students, it’s very easy to get exposure to a lot of germs and bacteria. And if this still doesn’t make you want to drink more water, then just know, that water is great for having GLOWING skin.
2. Walking to class does not equal working out.
You don’t have to go to the gym. And I can assure you that I don’t have time to go to the gym either. But there are a lot of exercises you can do at home that are equally beneficial. These will probably not help you achieve the ultimate “summer body,” but it can help you stay healthy. Just YouTube some really easy at-home workout videos and try to do them at least twice a week when you’re free!
3. Get enough sleep!
Pulling all-nighters is never a good idea. For me, they only work if you're writing an essay, and even then it is not an adequate display of your knowledge. You can do so much better! Cramming weeks worth of information in one night will not help you. Learn this now and learn this well: spread out your work load. Do a little bit each day. And this is not just for studying, but for everything else in life! Sleep is so important to help you retain the knowledge you acquire. Give your body the rest it needs! Trust me, your body will thank you for it.
4. Mental health is JUST as important as physical health.
Often times as students we overwork and stress ourselves, and this can be extremely damaging to both our mental and physical health. Physical health is easier to see and sometimes much easier to solve. However, mental health is not always visible and needs more attention. Make sure to never take on more load than you can handle. It is always good to push yourself, but you should know what works for you and what doesn’t.
