Tips To Having a Great Prom

I know these because I've been through it.

It's that time of year again and everyone is getting ready to dance their feet off. Dates have been asked out, most in a cute way, to go to Prom and people are setting up plans for dinner that night as well as plans for after Prom. Girls and boys both are getting excited to see their dates all fancied up and ready to get to dance with the other.

While Prom is usually a fun night, there are things that can go wrong. So here are some tips to making sure you have the best Prom ever!

1. No Date? Go With Friends!

I know it happens sometimes, and it's a real bummer, but if you don't get asked out by a guy to go to Prom, go with a group of friends! I did this both years for my Prom, and I still had a blast. For senior Prom I ended up going with my best friend, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better date or a better night. Don't fret over the boy or girl you were wanting to ask you to go, focus on the fun you can have with the people you care about and make some memories!

2. Leave Everything Else Behind

For a lot of events there ends up being some drama usually. Here's what I say to that: leave it for another day. Leave the worry and drama or whatever else that is going on behind at home so that you can really enjoy Prom. Take the night for yourself so you don't have to worry about the rest of your problems. There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking one night to relax and make memories. It's important to do that, because otherwise, your night is going to go down the drain quickly.

3. After Prom - Don't Go Wild

A lot of movies portray girls and guys going and getting drunk after Prom. Yes, that does sometimes happen, but it's not the best idea. A lot of bad things can go wrong, you could end up doing something you'll regret for the rest of your life, and it could end up harming you too. Don't go wild at whatever thing you decide to do once you leave the school gym for the night. Make sure you stay safe and know what you're doing. Don't let yourself be coerced into doing something you don't want to do.

4. Stay Safe Always

Love yourself enough to make sure you're safe the entire time and don't do anything to risk your life or anyone else you're with. If you do end up going to a party after Prom, go with friends and have a safe word if you need to leave. This applies to when you're at the dance too! If you are uncomfortable with how your date is behaving or if you just need to leave, have a word that your friends will recognize as a distress signal. Have each other's backs and make sure you're all safe!

I know there are only four here... But that should be enough. It's your night to have fun, to shine, to grow a little older, and to make memories that will last a lifetime. Prom ends up being one of the most memorable events from high school, or at least it was for me. I definitely wouldn't change much from either year I went. I left my worries behind me, definitely tried to stay away from the drama, and went with people I knew I would have fun with. I also was very cautious about what I did after Prom because I didn't want to end up doing something I would regret.

Let yourself enjoy the night and dance away!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
