4 Tips For A Future College Freshman

Senior year is finally over and all that's left is walking across the stage and earning your high school diploma. Seems simple? Your 2015-2016 school year is finally complete and now you're off to college or working or doing whatever it is that you have planned for your future. Everyone has told you about college and what its like and you've heard story after story of what to expect. Sure everyone who goes to college will have their own stories and their own kind of guidance or advice, but now it's your turn to make memories and then share your stories with the graduates of next year and the years to come.

Freshman year of college can be a tricky one and sometimes people realize that it's not for them, which is okay. But this is a letter for all the seniors that are ready for college and feel like they have a general grasp on what to expect and what to get out of their first year in college.

1. Roommates

You may already know who your roommate is and they may be your best friend, but the people who don't have a roommate that they already know, just watch out. Going to college and not knowing your roommate can sometimes turn out to be the best/worst decision ever. Sometimes there are those roommates that get blessed with the best roommate that they could ever dream of and they end up becoming best friends. Sometimes that's a different story but that will just have to be experienced yourself.

2. Freedom

The freedom you have in college is totally different than the "freedom" you have back home. Being in college means that you are an adult and everyone will now treat you as such. The importance of keeping your freedom in check is super important and most college freshmen realize that they need to take control of how they spend their time and what they are doing vs what they should be doing.

3. Time Management

Time management is such an important concept that freshman need to learn within their first year, and maybe even in their first week as a college freshman. Between studying, social life, and even possibly work life, college freshman get hit with a big wake up call when they need to start making a schedule for themselves every day. Without a planner or a calendar set somewhere, you could get lost between all the fun and forget about an important appointment that you set up. You don't have your parents there to remind you of every little thing so you learn to be responsible.

4. Friendships

Within your first year of college, you may find out who your true friends are and who you should have in your life and who is toxic. Sometimes it may take awhile to realize who is good and bad for you and sometimes it may take longer. Going into college lets you reinvent yourself and make new friends so you can see who you wish to spend your afternoons with and who you want to have in your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
