1) Find a book you’re interested in and actually read it
Reading is fundamental and opens the door to all types of things you could have never imagined. You’d be surprised what type of books interest you; I had never read a suspense fiction novel until last year and I absolutely loved it. So go to a bookstore or even use iBooks (you can download samples of any book) and just dedicate some time each day to reading. If you’re like me, dedicate a few days in which you read the book 24/7 and only stop to refill your tea.
2) Stay Hydrated
DRINK LOTS OF WATER! It can get very hot and humid in the south, so always keep water with you. The key is to have a really nice water bottle, so that you’ll actually use what you spent your money on.
3) Pick up a new hobby
If you’ve always wanted to do something, like knitting or surfing, you should do it this summer! There will be plenty of mornings where you want do something, but don’t know what. Don’t let this summer be filled with Netflix binges like the last one!
4) Go somewhere. Anywhere.
My favorite part of summer is exploring. Go somewhere that you’ve pinned to your “Travel” board, or if you’re pressed for cash just get in the car and drive. Set how long you’d like to drive or how many miles and pick the first place that interests you. It doesn’t matter where you’re going, just enjoy the journey!
5) Teach yourself a language
This can be really difficult, but with lots of time, patience, and Duolingo (the best app for teaching yourself a language) you can do it. Duolingo has a variety of languages so no need to feel the need to pick just one. Just choose one that you know you’ll enjoy learning!
6) Volunteer
There are many organizations that are always looking for volunteers for events or just ordinary things. If you’re not into volunteering, donate money or clothes to a good cause. But, your time is the best thing you could ever donate.
Above all, just have fun this summer. If you stay in bed for days at a time, do it with pride. If you’re out every morning volunteering, keep doing that! Don’t let someone dictate what you’re going to do this summer. There’s nothing worse than going back to school and hearing everyone talk about their amazing summer. It doesn’t matter if you don’t go to Bali or charter a yacht for a month. Just do what you want to do. Summer is about enjoying the weather and those around you. Make the most of it!
