As college students, we know all about stress. Whether it's stressing about that 10-page paper that's due tomorrow or cramming for that midterm that you forgot about, stress is everywhere. The second I start to not feel stressed, I get concerned and think I'm forgetting something and then stress all over again. Its a constant cycle that is very hard to break while in college. I'm here to remind everyone, myself included, that the stress will pass and things will get better again in time. Here are a few activities I like to do when I'm feeling way too stressed.
Take up a relaxing hobby.
I have found that crocheting is incredibly relaxing. Yes, I know, I am a grandma. Although it sounds like a grandma thing to do, it is truly relaxing! It is important to find something that has the ability to take your mind off of the crazy world around you. The best relaxing hobbies are the ones that you have to focus the most on. Some hobbies you could do to relax are crocheting, knitting, coloring, painting, etc.
Listen to some music.
Whenever I am incredibly stressed out I need to turn on music. Music just has a way of speaking to any emotion you are feeling and can bring light to any situation.
Take a nap.
I know what you're going to say, "I'm too busy to nap!" or "I have too much work to do to nap!" Here's the reality check for you though, if you are overtired, you are not going to get anything productive done. What is the use of studying something when you haven't slept in 24 hours? Your brain is too tired to remember anything at this point. Take my advice and take a nap to refresh your brain power!
Get some food in your stomach.
Studying is important but stressing and studying to the point of skipping meals is never OK. I don't recommend stress eating or over eating, but I do recommend that you refuel yourself at the normal breakfast, lunch and dinner hours. Your body needs food, and if there is none in it and you're stressing out, bad things could occur. You could pass out, get massive headaches, feel sick and so much more. Make sure you are taking care of yourself.
I know college is stressful—it's the nature of the beast. Just remember to take some of my tips into consideration and that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Hard work will get you there, and things will get better in time. Never Give Up.
