While many people are trying to see how many square feet they can stretch their budget to afford, some are doing the exact opposite and investing in houses that can be considered "tiny." Here are a few reasons why you should at least consider the possibility of living tiny in the near or distant future:
1. They come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes.
Just a quick google image search of "tiny houses" will bring up a multitude of pictures of this trend sweeping the nation. From modern to rustic, there is a tiny house that can fit everyone's style within its small frame.
2. They are cost efficient.
This one might seem like a no-brainer, but less square footage equals less money. Be honest, how many of y'all use your formal dining room on a regular basis? Do we really need all of the extra square feet that we take for granted every day? These tiny houses cost a lot less than your average house, but many of them are made with the same amenities (stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, etc.) on a smaller scale.
3. They allow you to live almost anywhere.
Since some of the smaller ones are houses on wheels and the bigger ones are wide loads, they can be dropped off almost anywhere you have the space to put them. You can live out in the country like you've always dreamed of, and not have to wait for a costly, time-consuming house to be built. You can put down roots on the side of a mountain in a space not big enough for a traditional house. The sky (or the loft in the house) is the limit.
4. They are energy efficient.
Smaller obviously means less electricity, water, air conditioning, heating, etc. These tiny houses use way less energy than regular houses, and (relating back to the cost efficiency) can save you money in energy costs.
5. They force you to get rid of unnecessary things.
There is no possible way to fit everything from a traditional house into a tiny house. You just can't do it. The cynic in me thinks that everyone who owns a tiny house and lives in it regularly must own about four storage units full of stuff to come back to later. What if they don't? Maybe they downsized their possessions to fit into a cozy cottage. So, buying a tiny house implies that you might have to part with some of your old t-shirts and ex-lover memorabilia (what a loss).
6. They allow you to lead a simpler life.
When you discard material things you don't need in life, it sometimes forces you to think about other areas in life you might need to look through. Some issues or relationships or dreams might be sitting under a layer of metaphorical dust, and it just takes a little brushing off to finally realize whether or not they're worth keeping. Living tiny means that you get to take in more of the environment around you because there is less between you and the world.
