How Dachshunds Make Life Interesting

Big things come in small packages.

How Dachshunds Make Life Interesting

From reading "Hounded" by Matt Ziselman, it inspired me to reflect on what it means to have a Dachshund. The book is about having three Dachshunds with differing personalities, but somehow all three make the family better. Dachshunds aren't anything like the big gentle breeds like a Golden Retrieve, but they have the best personalities. They have always been my favorite breed, since I got my first. I have a sweet, but very dumb dachshund named Munchkin. He is my "rocket dog" and my best friend. He knows how to influence a smile or a laugh in your heart, even as he grows older.

Dachshunds are known to the sassiest dog breed due to their charms. They have a tiny body, but a loud bark that would be mistaken for a larger dog's bark. They look like a smaller breed of Basset Hound, but with less depressing features. Some Dachshunds have a Napoleon Complex, but others are so sweet. It is all on how you raise them just like Pit Bulls. They have a natural tendency to burrow, because of their genetics. This is a German breed that was meant to hunt badgers. When they lay in their blankets, they have to burrow themselves. A nose sometimes is the only evidence that there is a dog underneath a pile of blankets.

The larger breeds tend to be more docile, and more loving then this breed. Dachshunds are considered to be naturally more aggressive then Pit Bulls. Their personalities range from sassy but gentle, to sassy but mean. I have met Dachshunds of different personalities, and I still love them all. Growing up, I would ride my bike around my neighborhood and a single lady had pack of ten Dachshunds in her backyard. When someone who ride passed her fence, all of them would follow the bike and bark in sync.

My Dachshund is named Munchkin, because of how small he is for a normal dachshund. I have to thank him for giving my childhood laughter and love. He is the funniest Dachshund I have ever met. He used to wag his tail so fast and jump up on your leg so fast that you never knew what was coming. What is so funny about that? His run was so messed up that his body was in the shape of a boomerang as he ran. To run in a straight line, he had to run to the side. It was a sight to see him running in our backyard as fast as he can and jumping over low obstacles that is why his nickname was rocket dog. He used to love to cuddle my leg when he slept with me in my bed. My room was one of the coldest rooms, so he needed my body heat from my leg. He never gave kisses, and always waits until you leave the kitchen to eat. We got him a full grown, so we do not know his age.

Dachshunds are one of the greatest breeds because of many things. They keep us entertained and on our toes with their differing personalities. This week's article is inspired by the book Hounded by Matt Ziselman and my yearning from my Munchkin who lives with my parents. Reading the book makes me excited to adopt another Dachshund.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
