It's finally that time of year again. The end of December. Families gather from across the country to laugh and cry together because everyone has been waiting for this day for months, anticipating the pure joy that they will experience once it happens. Snow is beginning to fall, magic is in the air and you've built this moment up so much that it can't possibly disappoint.
The final episode of the year for Saturday Night Live.
Saturday, December 19 the final episode of 2015 aired, and who better to do the job of hosting than the endlessly funny comedic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler?
Beginning with a Christmas duet, their monologue sets the show in motion. The pure chemistry between Fey and Poehler allowed this all over the place opener about Christmas and dark Christianity to be awkwardly hilarious. The dynamic of Amy's quirky, light hearted parts of the song mixed with Tina's seriously twisted, straight faced ones create a magnificent Christmas song that's sure to be memorable.
Moving on through politically charged skits, some more singing and a random hover board "commercial", a personal favorite from the night was game show skit "Meet Your Second Wife", which featured the two hosts alongside three male cast members, Taran Killam, Kenan Thompson and Bobby Moynihan. The men were participants in an unknown game show where they are introduced to their future second wives who are surprisingly young.
Finally, another fan favorite was the star-packed skit spoofing Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" music video. "Dope Squad" pokes fun at Swift's video, which is jam packed with her extremely famous A-list friends. Although not very catchy, the super bad-ass Fey and Poehler feature Amy Schumer, Robert Downey Sr., their gynecologists and nannies and even "that guy who brought Amy her lost wallet" in this hilarious musical parody.
Throw in a random Paul McCartney at the end and there you have it, the last Saturday Night Live of the year. It's been a great year for the cast, featuring shows with Ryan Goseling, Larry David, 'The Rock', the ever popular Adele Thanksgiving skit, almost every major 2016 presidential candidate and many more. Here's to another great year at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
See you in 2016, SNL geeks, and "live from New York, It's Saturday Night!"
