As we all know—special thanks to Target’s back-to-school commercials—fall is just around the corner. This time of year has been hated on since the beginning of time. It forces all students to get their sh*t together and prepare themselves for the upcoming school year. It also brings an end to many people’s beloved warm weather. I’m sure the list could go on and on for some, but I think they're forgetting that every downside has its upside. And the most important upside of fall is the return of all your favorite TV shows.
There are several different stages of emotion one goes through in anticipation of their show.
Whether it's "Grey's Anatomy" or "Scandal," it doesn't matter. These writers know exactly what they're doing when they send us on this emotional rollercoaster ride.1. The first stage could go one of two ways. You could experience the “are you effing serious” reaction. Most can expect to experience this stage within five seconds after watching their show’s season finale and you have every right to this reaction; just don't project your frustration on to your roommates.
If it turns out that the writers of your show decided not to torture you, you then will reach a state a pure content. You can't help but feel happy and at ease to know that all your beloved characters are still alive and kicking. This euphoric feeling will last up to one hour to a day, and your face will most likely look like this
:
2. After a week or so, your will start to go through what is medically referred to as withdrawal. This stage affects everyone differently, so just work through it at your own pace. It usually doesn’t last too long, but I recommend finding a summer lineup TV show in order to keep those cold sweats and fetal positions at bay.
3. Fast-forward a couple months to the halfway mark. You’re at the point where you are exactly halfway between your life briefly ending and your rebirth. By this point, you should be fully recovered or at least pretty mentally stable. You’ve had time to digest all the drama and/or heartbreak and should be ready for what the upcoming season will bring.

*Disclaimer: This stage may take some longer to reach than others. No judgment.
4. Now onto the final stage of sheer excitement. This stage can start as early as a week or two prior to the premiere, and it only intensifies as time draws you closer to your long-awaited moment. It’s a great feeling when you finally reach this stage—so great that most don’t know how to contain it. *Please take a couple deep breaths if possible*
As we all try to swallow the fact that fall is approaching, let's take a moment to appreciate all the things this time of the year so graciously gives us.
