Tim Burton Creations as High School Stereotypes

Back-to-school season came early this year, folks.

Yes, it is that time once again for me to overanalyze filmmaking! I absolutely love Tim Burton and his unique mix of eclectic and spooky. You might know him from his directorial position on "The Nightmare Before Christmas," which is, for sure, one of his most popular works. Because I feel like writing something different from what I usually do, I have decided to share how I believe Tim Burton's "children" (eek, that sounds creepier than I anticipated) would take on four years of a pubescent teenager's paradise. Keep in mind, I tried to match these clique descriptions as best I could to the most common personalities I have seen throughout high school, both firsthand and through hearing about other friends' experiences. Here we go!

1. The Elite Crowd - The Red Queen and her Court (Alice in Wonderland reboot)

There's always that group of people in high school that everyone wants to be in good standing with, even if they aren't the friendliest people. Whether the consequence is social ridicule, or in this case, hearing "Off with your head!" shouted all day, you don't want to get on their bad side.

2. The Weirdo - Edward (Edward Scissorhands)

Next, we have the kid that no one really knows what they might be thinking. With Edward, it's safe to say it's the fact that he was made by a scientist. Talk about embarrassing.

3. Prom King and Prom Queen - Jack and Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas)

I shouldn't have to explain this one. It's pretty self-explanatory.

4. THAT Couple/ "We get it, you're together." - Emily and Victor (Corpse Bride)

Solemnly vowing to enforce their undead PDA, until life do they part. Here we have another one of Tim Burton's most classic characters. This obnoxious ghost spends most of her free time messing with the living and trying to hook up with anything - living or dead - that appears to be male.

5. The Burnout - Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice)

Here we have another one of Tim Burton's most classic characters. This obnoxious ghost spends most of his free time messing with the living and trying to hook up with anything - living or dead - that appears to be female.

6. The Literal Serial Killer - Sweeney Todd (Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street)

All right, this one might be a little harsh. I'm not trying to be judgmental or anything. Still there's that one kid in your math class that does freak you out a little....

7. The Favorite Teacher - Mr. Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reboot)

I would sign up for a cooking class if Willy Wonka was the teacher, hands down. Would that be the best chocolate soufflé or what?

8. The "Freaky" One - Lydia Deetz (Beetlejuice)

Do you see ghosts, wear black headpieces, and walk around in a constant state of gloom? Congratulations, your name must be Lydia Deetz. To be honest, I would most likely hang out with this girl.

10. Student Body President - Alice Kingsleigh (Alice in Wonderland reboot)

When student government elections roll around, people tend to think it's a popularity contest more than anything. However, more often than not, people would rather vote for someone who has something good to say, versus the person who gives out the most "Vote for (insert name here)" candy bribes. Slay that Jabberwocky and dethrone the Red Queen, and the school is saved!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
