How To Get Through The Mid-Semester Blues

Every semester everyone hits those mid-semester blues where the motivation is slowly decreasing, and the desire to go to class, especially those 8 a.m.’s, is slimmer than what it was those first few weeks. Homework starts getting completed closer and closer to the deadline and sometimes not even getting done at all, then when those midterms feel like they come out of nowhere and the stress is at an all-time high. This is when those blues really sit in. So what is the best way to get through these blues? Here are just a few tips:

  • Set time to relax: No matter how busy your schedule is, how much needs to get done in that moment or even in the day as a whole, you still need to relax. The best time to really relax is when you are getting back from a long day of classes and/or work. Once you're home, for about a half hour just sit there, watch TV or listen to some music.
  • Work out: Make time to do yoga, run or even just walk. Honestly, the possibilities are endless, and when you work out it takes away so much stress and it makes you feel better about yourself in general. It doesn’t have to be anything lengthy if you don’t want it to be, even ten minutes can help a lot.
  • Make a playlist: Make a playlist of songs that are upbeat and feel good tunes. Spotify might even already have a playlist made for you based on all your other song selections in your library. However, I do believe it is more beneficial if you get to make it yourself. The playlist can be good for a long night studying, walking to class or just to help you get through the day.
  • Netflix: Every college loves Netflix, however most college students binge watch their favorite show to where they finish it in two weeks. It is helpful if you use Netflix as part of your time to relax. Not only are you getting caught up on your favorite show, but it is also a time where you are not thinking about school.
  • Take a night off: Plan accordingly with your schedule, but try to make it to where you have one free night where you can go and do whatever you want. Let the whole idea of school and stress leave you for that time being.

Getting through the mid-semester blues takes a lot of motivation. But with these few little tricks, it might not be as hard as we all make it. Also, always remember that you will get through it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
