In today's day and age, the world makes it seem like higher education is a must to succeed in life, and that's partly right. Going to a university is necessary and a goal for most people, but not in order to succeed. Today higher education is needed merely to get by in life, and many of us who go to college get degrees that we don't even end up using in our careers later on. That's not to say that this is the case for everyone, but it is an observable trend that is becoming more and more common.

Soapbox aside, those of us that are in college already know, and those that will go to college in the future will learn, that college is a learning place in more than just classes. College is an environment for people to learn how to handle themselves in an environment that lets them have (more or less) complete control of their schedule and time.

College students are being allowed to interact inside a community that isn't really duplicated many other places and within those interactions, they learn about themselves. They make mistakes and learn to make better ones. That being said, these are the three biggest mistakes that every college student will make during their University years.

1. You will procrastinate for too long

It might be that last-minute essay the teacher hands you or the homework you forgot about, or even the project you were told about at the beginning of the semester, but eventually, you will end up procrastinating for too long over the wrong assignment, and it will lead to your doom! Or at least hurt your grade a bit. Such is life.

2. You will fail in your relationships

Maybe that long distance relationship falls apart. Perhaps you haven't been talking to your family back home as often as you should. Inevitably, you start to distance from yourself from the people you once called friends. This is just a part of life, and balancing relationships is a skill everyone learns (or at least should learn.)

3. You will find the wrong "friend(s)."

Sometimes something isn't quite right with that group of people you hang out with on the weekends. Maybe that relationship, no matter what you feel about the person you're with, just isn't good for you. Maybe you have that roommate that everyone keeps warning you about when they're not around.

One of the most important things college students learn in college is what kind of life they want to lead, and that means involving yourself in groups and activities you enjoy and distancing yourself from those that just aren't right.

College is the time to make mistakes and learn from them. One thing to be aware of is that, as a college student, there's always time to make a change, and to turn things around even when you feel like there's no other choice. Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are doomed to follow that path forever. You always have a choice, and you can always learn from mistakes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
