It’s easy to get so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget to slow down and thank the people in our lives for all they do for us. And let’s be real, who does more for us than our mothers? So here are some things that you should tell your mom "thank you" for right now and remind her how important she is to you.

1. Thank you for teaching me how to love myself and others

I have learned so much from you, and you are still continuing to teach me new things each day. You know more about me than even I do. I always say that everyone likes you and it’s impossible to dislike you and I used to wonder why that is, but when I think about it, the answer is very apparent. You care about other people, even people who might not deserve it or need it.

When someone genuinely cares for another person, it gives them an undeniable sense of trust, admiration, and respect for that person. Which is exactly what I have for you. There are no words to try and describe the bond between and a mother and a daughter. But I am so grateful to know that kind of love and grateful to you for showing me that kind of love. I hope to be able to reciprocate that love to the world around me the way you do, through all of my words and actions.

2. Thank you for always answering my many questions and for giving the kind of advice that only a mother can give

I have no idea what I’d do without your undying love, support, and most of all, for never failing to answer all my questions (no matter how stupid), give me advice (even when I don’t want to hear it) and for helping me in any crisis situation (no matter how major). When I am stressed and overwhelmed — which is all the time — there is no one who can make me feel better and help me to relax the way you do.

I still haven’t figured out exactly how yet, but you magically know how the solution for everything and always tell me exactly what I need to hear. You make me laugh when I’m having a bad day and cheer me up when I’m feeling down. You know exactly what I need way before I do and you know how to make any situation better.

3. Thank you for teaching me to be strong and how to stand on my own

You are the strongest person I know. You have so much strength and faith in your heart that you are able to lift up and carry everyone else with you. I can only hope to learn from you and try my best to carry on those traits within myself. I have learned from you that no matter what cards you may be dealt, or what your situation may be, having humility and love for other human beings will get you as far as you need to go in life.

I watch you and I think of someone who is capable of anything. You’ve taught me to be brave and stick to what I know is right, even if it’s hard to do. You’ve taught me that the only one who can determine my life is me and that no one else can stand in my way.

Everything I know I’ve learned from you. And for that, I can’t thank you enough. I can only hope to continue to learn more and more every day for the rest of my life. I have so much respect for you as a person and I will always look up to you no matter how old I am.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
