Do I need a jacket this morning? Would a sweatshirt be enough?
Chances are, you'll need a jacket in the morning and only a sweatshirt by the time it hits noon. During the beginning stages of the cold weather, when it's still fall and not quite winter, temperatures vary throughout the day. In the morning, it might be 40 degrees and yes, you will need a jacket. But as noon rolls around, temperatures have rose close to 60 degrees and a sweatshirt or just a long sleeved shirt is all you need before you start sweating.
The wind hurts my face…I can’t feel my cheeks.
The cold, harsh winter winds can be brutal, especially to your face. The minute you step outside and that wind touches your face, it hurts. It feels like someone is repeatedly slapping your face, leaving a stinging sensation for a while after you get out of the wind. It numbs your skin, you can't move your lips and your whole face feels stiff.
I really need to stock up on Chapstick.
The harsh winds and the cold weather really do some damage to your lips. They become cracked and start to peel, it's just gross. And, depending on how cracked they are, they'll start to bleed and then you'll be left with the constant taste of blood in your mouth. Chapstick will be your best friend in the winter. It's the only thing that will help (not cure) your sad, winter lips.
My nose won’t stop running. I’m so disgusting.
Wiping your nose every two seconds because of the constant dripping. And then, while you're sitting in class, your urge to sniff or wipe comes along and you're faced with three options; be gross and let it drip, be gross and wipe the snot with your sleeve, or be annoying and sniff every second.
Definitely should’ve dried my hair before I left for class.
Frozen hair is the worst, am I right girls? Going outside with wet hair, even if it's just the slightest bit wet, will freeze in an instant. The more it is exposed to the cold air, the crunchier and frostier it gets. And then, when it starts the thaw, it drips on your back or on the desk right behind you. But, worse than that, having wet hair in the winter means a cold head and the start of a lovely cold.
I wish I looked good in winter hats. Earmuffs, too.
Some people can pull them off but most people look like a worm when they have those tight hats pulled down over their ears. And the earmuffs make it look like you have furry headphones on, it's just weird. Now, those thin fabric headbands for your ears, they're super cute. Not the best at keeping you warm, sadly.
Why don’t I wear gloves?
Seriously though, I barely wear gloves. I know they will keep my hands nice and toasty but I always talk myself out of using them, convincing myself that keeping my hands in my pockets will be enough to keep me warm.
Great, now my fingers are frozen and I can’t use my phone.
Prime example of when gloves would be extremely useful. Even after keeping them stowed away in your jacket pockets, the winter wind still finds a way to sneak its way in and make your hands cold as ice. So cold that when you try to use your phone, your fingers are too cold and numb that it almost hurts to try. Struggles.
I hope I don’t slip on ice, that’d be embarrassing.
You see it on the sidewalk but you think, "If I walk slow and carefully, I won't slip." Stop kidding yourself, you're going to slip on it and there's no way to prevent it. The only times that it seems you don't slip on it is when there's no one around to witness it. But, when there are tons of people around, you always seem to fall on your a** or do a nice little dance before you catch yourself.
Is it snowing? Does it look like it's going to snow? Are classes cancelled?
It seems as though schools (cough, cough, West Chester) get very confused with snow and when to cancel classes. Classes get cancelled when there isn't snow and the roads are dangerous. Classes aren't cancelled when there is snow and you actually can't get to class. But, there still are those times when they make the right call and cancel classes because the snow and ice are too much.
The snow is so pretty.
Snow is just terrible when you have to trudge through it to get to class or when you need to drive somewhere but your car is snowed in and covered in snow. But, when you're watching it fall from the sky and falling in cotton ball sized flakes, it is one of the most peaceful things imaginable. When the ground is coated in a blanket of fresh snow, wanting to run through the untouched area but no wanting to ruin the perfection.
I’m so over the cold weather.
At first, the cold weather is a nice change to the scorching summer heat. And when the snow starts to fall, the cold weather fits right in and it's really not too bad. But after some time with the low temperatures, you start to wonder how much longer you have to deal with the cold weather. It went from love to hate real quick.
How long until summer?
As soon as you get fed up with the cold weather and the snow, you start a countdown to summer. A time when you aren't constantly shivering from the cold. A time when your nose isn't dripping with snot. A time when you can actually feel your limbs.
I knew I should’ve gone to school in Florida.
Let's be real. Everyone has had this thought when they were applying for college. The idea that going to school somewhere down south would be the best idea ever because it means no cold weather and temperatures in the 70's year round. And it's days like cold winter days that make you regret not following through with that thought the most.
