It is an addiction. I am not exaggerating. It is a place I go when I am stressed, hungry, lonely, and bored. That’s right people, you know what's coming. I love Target.
1. The smell
I don’t know if it’s the popcorn from the Target Café or the faux leather purses in the accessory department, Target just has that smell. It’s the smell of happiness and welcoming. You used to think it was weird when you were younger, but now it is comforting.
2.The dollar section
There is a reason why it’s strategically placed right at the entrance. They get you on the first glance. Before you know it, you’re buying useless items that you’re convinced you’ll use.I can afford a $1 pair of fuzzy socks. Oh! What about some cute stationary stamps? You never know when you’ll need to stamp your name!
3. The clothes
A dress, a bathing suit top, or a new sweater. You’ll trail through the racks, finding at least three items you say you could use more of. Reasonably priced, $18.99 is totally acceptable for a cute cable knit fall sweater…right?
4. The home décor
I don’t know how they manage to do it, but they have you buying things for an apartment you don’t even have. I need a ceramic pig. I absolutely need another fake flower arrangement. Picture frames? I have a ton! But this one…this one is gold and chevron patterned…Give it to me. OH. MY. GOD. Look at this pillow!
5. The beauty section
You'll pick up another hair product, probably hairspray. You’ll buy lipstick in a shade you’ll probably never wear, either black or neon orange.
The colors, the sights, I need it all. I think I’m out of mascara soon…maybe I’ll pick this one up! Wow, this nail polish color is so cute and I'm 99% sure I don’t own anything like it.
6. The office supplies
You don’t really know why, but you find yourself aimlessly walking over to the office supplies. There you are, looking at markers and colored pens when you already have enough pens and writing utensils to last until you die.
I need post-its notes for something. I’m sure I do. Cool, they have those little sticky tabs! I can use these to help me study!
7. The accessories
For some reason, you go here last even though you already took a quick glance when you first entered. Something is just telling you-you need to go back for a second look.
Look at these super cool hats. I have always wanted to rock a floppy hat. Maybe I’ll get one. Oh my god…look at this flannel print scarf…scarfs are a staple. This is totally reasonable to buy.
8. The checkout line
I regret it. I regret it all.
Here’s where it’s all laid out on the line. Hands full, you patiently wait your turn and throw all of your items on the belt. Forgetting you even picked up a candle, and that pair of leggings, or that pack of gum, and the $7.99 v-neck. The cashier, Ingrid, asks you how are you, as your heart begins to race and you suffer from a hot flash. Hoping you have enough money in your checking account for these unexpected purchases, you stand there, helpless and anxious. Each item scanned and placed into a bag. She says your total, and a shiver runs down your spine. You swipe your card while Ingrid swipes your soul, and she knows it too. You pick up your bags, and as Ingrid hands you your receipt she says, “Have a nice day,” as if she is trying to aid the searing pain of the Target regret. You take the walk of shame to your car and place your bags in the back seat. Pulling away, you realize...
Crap. I forgot to buy toilet paper. That’s ok, I’ll come back tomorrow.
You got me again, Target.
