Odyssey online is full of content.
There's fun lists comparing majors to television characters, but also deep content expressing people's grief and heartbreak. I think this is one of my favorite things about Odyssey is that it allows young adults to express their opinions and their beliefs.
No, you don't have to agree with them all, but they are people's opinions that I'm sure someone shares with them. It gives so many people a voice who honestly may not have one otherwise.
Odyssey came into my interesting time in life. I had tried it over the summer before entering college, but due to a silly mistake on my part, I was in the wrong community. After two articles, I quit thinking it wasn't for me. I wasn't even aware Ball State University had an Odyssey group.
It was spring of my freshmen year, so 2017. I'd just left a club I'd been heavily involved with all year, so I was in the search for something to replace that void. After many hours of searching, I had one I was interested in, but I wanted to find another one just in case.
I decided maybe giving Odyssey Online a try one more time. I was passionate about writing. I'd always been that way. Why not joining something where you get to write articles about whatever you want?
Sure, enough I applied and after a phone interview, I was in. It's a little different then I first thought it'd be. Producing an article every week can be a challenge, especially when writer's block hit, but there's a community of other creators who are always there to help and give you ideas. They may blow up my cell phone with messages from the group chat, but they are all great people, who I probably wouldn't get to connect with if it wasn't for our community.
Being part of a major that has a lot of writing to it, Odyssey has helped my writing a ton. It's given me articles to look at that I could maybe use for a portfolio in the future and made it easier to voice my opinions and thoughts to the world.
It's allowed me to share things I don't say/think to do a lot. I've made a list of things I want my little sister to know when she gets my age. I've been able to publicly thank my mother, grandparents, and my step-dad for their impact in my life.
I can't wait to see where Odyssey takes me in the future with my writing. It's already given me the idea to possibly start a blog in the upcoming future. It's a great opportunity that I think a lot more people should try and take advantage of.
