Last week, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" was released for all to read ( as most of us will sadly never see the play) and I have no shame in admitting I went to a midnight release of the book. I then proceeded to read the first 100 pages in the early hours of the morning before sadly putting it down against my better judgment and going to sleep. If you're a Harry Potter fan then chances are you've already read the book and probably immensely enjoyed at the bare minimum just getting to see a glimpse of your favorite characters. After reading the book I wanted to share some thoughts I had and some of my favorite moments.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!
1. I Can't Believe This is Real
The emotions were uncontrollable as we held in our hands more of the Harry Potter universe. Once we flipped open to the first page the excitement was uncontainable. However, I can't say I burst into tears even though some fans admit that the experience was all too much for them.
2. I Want To See The Play
As I was reading the script in my head it took me a few pages to get used to the format. However, once I quickly got used to reading the lines and all the stage cues I began imagining it all in my head. Not long after I just really wanted to see it preformed on stage. Of course, then I realized I would not be able to get a free, expense paid trip to London and would never be able to see it.
3. Scorpius Malfoy is the Best
He's completely socially awkward and it makes him hilarious. He's also an amazing best friend to Albus. I mean, if you read it you know all the crazy mess Albus gets him into, but Scorpius is still absolutely loyal through it all. (Plus his crush on Rose Weasley is adorable).
4. Seeing Snape Again Made My Life Better
I have to admit that this is the only part in the whole book that actually brought me to tears. When things go wrong with the time turner and Scorpius is in this alternate world where Severus Snape lives, it is heartbreaking. When Snape says " Tell Albus- tell Albus Severus -- I'm proud he carries my name" I couldn't handle it.
5. You Go, Hermione!
She's a female, muggle born in charge of the wizarding world and its extremely well deserved, since she was the brightest witch in Harry's year by far. It's great to see such a strong female character become even stronger.
6. Voldemort Had a Daughter???
My immediate thoughts where when the heck did this happen?? Although, the mother being Bellatrix was no surprise at all. The way she always bragged about herself being Voldemort's being first lieutenant makes it all fit in quite well. After some internet digging I also found out she was conceived during Voldemort's stay at Malfoy Manor. This made sense as well, although I'm still astounded no one ever discovered that Delphi existed.
7. A Time Turner, Really?
The one device that could destroy everything that was sacrificed and fought for in the original seven books, and there is not only one but two in existence. Also, why did Hermione not destroy it once she got it? What was she thinking? Of course, then the play would have no plot and therefore no "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" so I guess we'll have to let this one slide.
8. I Want More
The book was over too soon and it left us all hungry for more. Luckily the new film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" will be out soon, so we're not done getting a glimpse of Rowling's wizarding world just yet.
