So, just in case any of you were wondering, "The Bachelorette" is due back on T.V. this summer. And even though I’m excited to see JoJo begin her quest to find love after watching "The Bachelor", I have often asked myself: why do I even care to watch this franchise? Well, believe it or not, people out there, including myself, believe in love. And as odd as it may be, watching it play out on national television is interesting and never gets old.
Now putting the fairy tale experience aside, I often ask myself the same questions every season when I watch! And funny as they are, I feel like when watching, we’re ALL probably thinking the same thing:
1. “Okay, Chris Harrison, here we go again.”
Every season Chris Harrison is walking and talking on the SAME oddly wet stone driveway of the SAME mansion located in the SAME California resident as always. He introduces the lead whom by this time we’ve seen plastered on commercials, People Magazine, Good Morning America, and any and every social media platform known to man. And even though it’s expected, we’re ready to watch the magic or drama of this fairy tale begin.
2. “How did she get on this show?”
On the first night many viewers anticipate the glorious introductions. This is the time when the characters make a long lasting and sometimes scary and odd first impression for the lead. Some are creative, funny and cute. Others, on the other hand, leave us scratching our heads and wondering if some of these contestants are really that short of ideas or brain cells. Perhaps putting on an act? Maybe? Who knows?
3. "So how many representations of actual different kinds of women are there this time?"
Now this isn’t just some time to actually talk about the elephant in the room, but diversity isn’t really this show’s strong suit. Watching it may seem like you are literally watching the same season over and over again. And no….That’s not you. It’s the lack of diversity of women. But don’t blame the lead blame casting. Viewers can hope to see curvier, taller, older, and women from different ethnic backgrounds but that usually doesn’t happen. Now don’t get me wrong. There is some diversity, just not enough, but it doesn’t stop us from being glued to the T.V.
4. "Okay, so she’s this season’s villain.”
So let the fight between good and bad begin! We all know that watching "The Bachelor" is almost like watching "The Hunger Games". Survival of the fittest. Every season there is one girl that the others don’t like or isn’t in their eyes being genuine. This is our villain. This person is usually revealed on night one or two, but sometimes it takes a little longer. Be ready because this is the person that you’ll love to hate.
5. "Why didn’t he pick HER???!!”
So often, we as viewers get so invested in this show that we often forget to realize that in this competing game, only one person ultimately is chosen. SO why is it that we go on social media every year and RANT???!!! We’re hurt…shocked! I mean how could he have done this to us??? Or her??? But we love it and hate it, and it never gets old.
