Thoughts All RAs Have, As Told By Friends

It's that time of year again! Resident Assistants all around the country are about to return to their beloved residence halls and begin training for the fall semester. The smell of newly cleaned halls and the quite sound of just the RA's doesn't last for long though.

After a week of training, they come. The freshmen and their parents usually come first. Talk about questions. Freshmen and their parents have so many what-if scenarios that it may literally take us a week to calm all their anxieties. Then come the returning students who know what they're doing and really don't need the RAs much.

As we embark on this new semester, here are 11 thoughts that pass through Resident Assistant's heads as they prepare to go back to school.

1. I can’t wait to see all my RA friends.

Three and a half months apart is just too long.

2. What should I do for my floor theme?

Beach theme? Mermaid theme?

3. I hope my residents are nice and not obnoxiously loud.

3:30 AM is NOT the time to watch TV in the lounge.

4. Time to check Pinterest!

How many boards can I find about being an RA? A million.

5. Michael’s here I come!

Accurate representation of me walking into Michael's.

6. I really should start packing.

We all put it off 'til the last minute.

7. Will I like my floor partner?

Hopefully, it goes better than this...

8. Will I have time to organize my room before training starts?

Not like this could fit in a residence hall anyway...

9. I can't wait to start meeting all the residents.

Hopefully, they'll be as close as these guys by the end of the year.

10. Training week is soooo exhausting!

Naps really should be included in the schedule.

11. What programs will I put on this semester? I should plan ahead so I don't get too busy with schoolwork and forget...

Alright, let's be honest, planning ahead never happens..

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
